Grease Removal Unit

The heart of the ECH2OTM Restaurant Pre-Treatment System is the Automatic Oil and Grease Removal Unit. Oil and grease and laden wastewater is gravity fed through a two stage solid filter. This solid filter removes both settleable and suspended food particles down to 40 microns.
The wastewater is then directed to the above or below ground collection unit, which pumps the effluent to the oil and grease removal unit at a flow rate of up to 20gpm. The wastewater effluent flow is slowed by specially designed piping and passes through the API MazeamaxTM coalescing plates. The coalescing plates are made of an oleophilic material assembled in modules. Oil droplets of 20 microns and larger adhere to the plates and coalesce into larger droplets. These larger droplets become buoyant and float to the top of the oil/grease removal unit. Effluent can be expected not to exceed 35 mg/l of oil/grease. Solid removal will be reduced to 40 microns under the following conditions.

a. A maximum of 50 mg/l detergent concentration.
b. A maximum temp of 150 F.
c. Specific gravity differential .08
d. A maximum oil/grease concentration of 5,000 ppm.
The API MazeamaxTM coalescing plates enable the removal of not only free floating oil and grease, but also oil/grease that have been emulsified in the wastewater.
As the oil and grease separate, a layer is formed at the top of the removal unit. Probes within the tank sense when sufficient oil/grease has been accumulated. This sensing automatically activates an oil pump which will remove the oil and grease from this unit, pumping it to a separate container. The oil and grease removed is virtually free of water and solid foods and can be easily recycled. The effluent from the removal unit is monitored by a unique API product. The POINTTM Pollution Indicator, which allows the user to verify that oil and grease have been removed from the restaurant wastewater.
