Wastewater and Grease Trap Solutions
Restaurant Wastewater Pre-Treatment
HOW TO REDUCE OPERATING COSTS AND STAY IN COMPLIANCE WITH LOCAL
AND FEDERAL WASTEWATER REGULATIONS
ECH2OTM SYSTEM OVERVIEW
| OIL AND GREASE REMOVAL
The heart of the ECH2OTM
Restaurant Pre-Treatment System is the Automatic Oil and Grease Removal Unit. Oil and grease laden wastewater is first pumped through a two stage solid filter. The solid filter removes both settleable food particles and suspended solid food particles down to a minimum of 40 microns. Then the directed effluent flow is slowed by specially designed piping before passing through the API MazeamaxTM coalescing
plates.
These plates attract oil droplets of 20 microns and larger |
that will adhere to the plates and coalesce into larger droplets, which become buoyant and float to the top of the separation tank. Under normal operating conditions, an effluent of 35 mg/l oil and solid particles no larger than 40 microns can be expected. As the oil and grease separate, a layer forms at the top of the separation tank. Probes within the tank sense when sufficient oil and grease have accumulated and automatically activate the oil pump. This removes the oil and grease from the tank and stores the oil and grease in a separate storage container.

| SOLID FILTRATION
Food preparation and clean-up generate a substantial amount of solid waste. The ECH2OTM system includes gravity flow solid filters which are installed on pre-rinse sinks, pot sinks, or any other area where sold waste may be discharged into drains. By placing the filters between the sinks and drainpipes, solid waste is removed before it can clog pipes. This should reduce pipe maintenance and repair costs. |
These two stage filters, consisting of a coarse
strainer for larger particles surrounded by a fine, 40 micron filter made of high strength nylon. These filters are easily cleaned and reusable.
Many municipalities prohibit the discharge of solid food particles into sewers. Solid food can block sewer mains and hasten bacteria growth. Use of the ECH2OTM gravity flow filters will reduce maintenance problems and ensure compliance with local discharge regulations.
| LIFT STATIONS
The ECH2OTM system includes lift stations that can be installed either above ground or below ground to pump the wastewater to the Automatic Oil and Grease Removal Unit. The above ground version can be installed if the floor drains are not in place to collect grease laden water. If floor drains are to be treated, the below ground version is installed. Liquid Lift Stations receive wastewater and pump it to the Automatic Oil and Grease Removal Unit where the oil and grease are removed from the wastewater.
This cleaned wastewater is then discharged to the sewer. For certain installations filters and a lift station can be combined into one unit. The Solid Removal/Liquid Lift Station is a large, two stage solid particle filter which is installed in the kitchen so that it can receive waste discharged from food grinders, pre-rinse sinks, pot sinks, etc. Effluent from the Solid Removal Unit is pumped to the Drainage Collection Station or directly to the Automatic Oil and Grease Removal Unit if the Drainage Collection Station is not used.
The ECH2OTM system has many advantages over a conventional grease trap. The most important advantage is in the savings in operating cost of an ECH2OTM when compared to a grease trap. Depending on the size of a waste water system, the cost to clean a grease trap and the cost of cleaning drain lines in the restaurant can run between $100 and $500 per month. By installing an ECH2OTM system, a restaurant can avoid the grease trap cleaning cost completely and drain-cleaning expense will be almost eliminated.
The ECH2OTM Restaurant Waste Water Pre-Treatment System will automatically remove oil, grease, and fats. Also removing solids before they accumulate causing costly damage and service charges. The ECH2OTM is an Engineered System as defined by the International Plumbing Code and will satisfy local ordinances requiring the installation of grease interceptors.
REMEMBER - State and local enforcement agencies are increasing the monitoring of waste discharge from food establishments. The most effective method to attain compliance with International Plumbing Code and EPA, local, and State Government Environmental Regulations is to install an ECH2OTM pre-treatment system.
